How to Setup SMTP Settings for Hotmail Account
over 1 year ago

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol which is used to send email from an email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird etc.  Your Hotmail account can only send an email though an email client if you use the correct SMTP settings. Keep following for the SMTP settings for your Hotmail account.

Before you get started, you must make sure that your Hotmail account is working perfectly fine. On top of that, you must have the latest version of an email client such as Outlook in your system.

Follow the steps below.

  1. Open Outlook in your system.
  2. Click on “Add New E-mail Account”
  3. Type your name which you would like others to see.
  4. Provide your Hotmail address.
  5. Account type must be “IMAP”
  6. Incoming mail server must be updated as imap-mail.outlook.com
  7. Outgoing mail server would be smtp-mail.outlook.com
  8. Username would be the full Hotmail address.
  9. Password must be the Hotmail password.
  10. Click on more setting and choose “Outgoing Server”
  11. Check the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”
  12. Select “Use same settings as my incoming mail server”
  13. Now click on “Advanced”
  14. Put 993 in the incoming server (IMAP)
  15. Choose encrypted connection SSL
  16. Outgoing server (SMTP) must be 465 and SSL as the encrypted connection.

You must not see any error while sending an automated test email. If in the case you encounter an error follow through with the steps mentioned above from the beginning. The above settings are as per the IMAP if you aren’t able to send or receive an email then try to reconfigure the client as POP3.

You must have an active internet connection with no latency. You may have to disable the antivirus for a time being if your antivirus is disrupting the email client. Use the latest version of the email client. Keep updating the operating system as well. Don’t use any virtual private network as your Hotmail will work very slowly. Make sure that all ports are opened which Hotmail uses. Confirm it from your internet service provider.

If the problem still persists or in the case you aren’t able to setup your Hotmail with email client then, don’t wait for the hot potatoes call our certified technicians on our Hotmail Customer Service Number and get the instant support along with the prompt resolution.
